What is AVID? Advancement Via Individual Determination

 

 AVID, standing for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness program for students in grades ninth through twelfth at JHS. The AVID system of education prepares students for the rigor and challenges of college classes while fostering an environment of heightened learning and performance in school.

 

AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

 

AVID students typically meet the following criteria:

  • First in the family to attend college
  • 2.0 or higher GPA and good attendance
  • Desire and determination to succeed
